My name is Jan. I am not an ornithologist. I started counting birds on this pond in the spring of 2023 because I had a new pair of binoculars and needed a reason to leave the house before work.
One slow lap of the pond, roughly the same route, roughly the same time of morning. I write in a pocket notebook and type it up at the weekend. Where I am unsure of an identification I say so rather than guess.
It is what a duck says in the language I grew up with. It seemed a better name than anything with the word "birding" in it.
